Chicago headshot photographer and photographic artist Janice Nelson, Janice D Nelson Photography, is a freelance photographer specializing in LinkedIn business headshots, corporate headshots, model and actor headshots, family portraits, black and white fine art portraiture and architectural photography. She serves the greater Chicago area and has an in-house studio in Lombard, Illinois. (Please know no appointments are available at this time.)

Although I’ve been capturing images all my life, I began seriously studying photography in 2009. A few years later I worked as a Photography Manager in Chicago. I captured portraits, products, city views, and even a couple events. By Spring of 2014, I began freelancing under Janice D Nelson Photography. Although I photograph different subjects, I specialize in headshots, portraits, and fine art architectural black and white photography. I’ve been blessed to become an award winning, published photographer.

Before working as a photographer, I began my working career many years ago as a Speech, Theatre, and English teacher. From there I worked in the corporate world predominantly in Staff, Training, and HR. In my youth, I very briefly dabbled in modeling. I hold a teaching degree and certificate, a BA in the Teaching of Speech Communication, and a Masters in Organizational Behavior and OD Consulting. When the ODI existed, I was a Registered OD Consultant. What does all this mean? I believe in lateral growth and continuous learning – regardless of age. This philosophy applies to Photography as well. I have been a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), KelbyOne, and an attendee of a Vision Explorers Fine Art workshop with Joel Tjintjelaar, Julia Ann Gospodarou, and Sharon Tenenbaum. I have also attended workshops with Joe McNally, Scott Kelby, and RC Concepcion.

Since it seems I am always learning and studying something related to photography I, on rare occasion, have accepted other assignments (e.g., weddings, products, school portraits). However, I am most at peace when creating works of art for myself or others – whether a black and white fine art image or color portrait. I take great care in planning, shooting, and meticulously post processing images, in order to create images you’ll enjoy for a lifetime.

I have several important photography blogs here at this site. If you are looking to improve your photography skills or if you are ready to hire a professional photographer, be sure to check them out as they contain helpful tips. One discusses things to look for when reviewing portfolios. Another talks about differences in group corporate photography services. Still another is related to wedding photography and the value of great photography. There’s also help on choosing backgrounds and getting yourself ready for a photoshoot and yet another doing this when you are not feeling great about yourself. I hope you will read them, and if you find them helpful, share links to them here (share the url here) on social media.

For those interested in learning photography, KelbyOne delivers world class performance-based training. They provide video instruction by many of the world’s top photographers, and they provide instruction in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, retouching, web design, the business of photography, gear selection, and more. All of the resources are phenomenal, and I can’t thank the people behind them enough for the joy, knowledge, and life experiences they spawn.
